I'm Still Standing
Parenting a child with a life-threatening illness
-
Synopsis
'This is simply a mother's attempt to explore the challenges of parenting a child with a life-threatening illness. For me, it happened to be my son's cancer, for others it may be their daughter's cystic fibrosis or their son's muscular dystrophy, or any other serious medical condition. I would not presume to have all the answers. I'm not sure I know all the questions-but I want to recognize and even celebrate the unique perspective that suffering can give us, to find joy and thankfulness in the smallest of things or the most unexpected places.'
I'm Still Standing examines the emotional, spiritual and practical implications of a child's serious illness, not only for the child and parents, but also for the whole family. From yearning for 'how things used to be', through learning to be flexible, to listen, to rest, and moving on towards helping the child reach independence, this book offers support and insight for all on this hard and lonely journey.About the Author

A Final Thought
Perhaps you're a parent with a child, like mine, who has a life-threatening illness and you have been given this book or bought it yourself but you're not really sure about all this talk of God. Perhaps you've never made a personal commitment to Christ and aren't sure what it means to have a relationship with him. I know from personal experience that, without God, I wouldn't be 'still standing'. I know that it's only through his strength, faithfulness, love and hope for the future that I have been able to face the highs and lows, the times of anxiety, that our son's illness has brought.
I also believe God's heart is breaking for you right now. He sees your pain and longs to come into your life to be your ever-present help in times of trouble, if only you would invite him in. So why not start your relationship with him today, by praying this prayer? Speaking personally, I can say that it's the best thing I ever did.
Lord Jesus Christ, I invite you to come into my life. I am sorry fo all the wrong things that I have done in my thoughts and words and actions, and I want to turn from everything I know to be wrong. You gave your life on the cross for me and gratefully I give my life back to you. Now I ask you as my Saviour to come into my life to cleanse me. Come as my Lord to direct me and come as my friend to be with me. Amen.Find Out More
