Frequently Asked
Questions

If you have only recently started coming, or are hoping to come soon, you may have some questions about our church and hopefully these answers will be useful. If you have any questions that aren't on this page don't hesitate to contact us

What Should I Expect?

We have a service on Sunday monring at 11am. We usually start off with a time of musical worship before some notices and then the children and young people leave for their respective activities. We have another time of worship before the sermon. We sometimes will use drama or multimedia presentations to help everyone focus on the theme of the sermon. At the end of the service we will finish with another time of worship and then feel free to get a cup of coffee and have a chat!

We also have an evening service at 6pm which is a network service and we have more time to worship God through music. Every month we also have communion during this service!

What About the Kids?

On a Sunday we offer something for children of all ages! For preschoolers we have Sunshine Club in our specially designed, Dora the Explorer themed, Sunshine Club room! For school years 1-6 we have Action Pack in our amazing Jungle Room! For Teenagers in school years 7-10 we have one-eighty which takes place in our very cool one-eighty room. We have discussions each week, not to mention breakfast can be had while you're there!

What Style of Music Do you Have?

We have a very diverse Music team called engage who serve the church in providing our music to help us to engage with God through musical worship. Through this diversity we have a very varied mix of styles and songs. Most of the time, however, it is a quite contemporary style along similar lines to the style of Hillsong, Soul Survivor, Passion or Vineyard. We do have more traditional hymns when it is appropriate. We will be making the song lists that we have for the quarter available in a playlist soon so you can have a listen to what we will be singing so any new songs will be easy to pick up!

How Do I Become a Member?

We believe that anyone coming along is a member of our church! Some members are more involved and committed than others but we don't have an official membership. However, we do have a few things that we would encourage "members" of Kingfisher Church to do. If you're not yet a Christian, take part in one of our enquirers courses to find out more about what we believe in and why the church does what it does. If you are a relatively new Christian, get involved in our Foundations group where you will learn about the foundational aspects of the Christian life (things like prayer, small groups, serving, giving, etc). You will also learn more about how you are wired up which will help you to find SMALL GROUP where you fit. If you would like to learn more about the spiritual battle we face as Christians and how you can be set free, take part in our SHAPED FOR SIGNIFICANCE course.

How is Kingfisher Church Funded?

Most of our money comes from members of our church giving to us. We believe in the biblical principle of Tithing which means that a tenth your income should be given to the church. We don't force people to give and we certainly don't pass around a collection plate because we believe that giving should be done freely, wholeheartedly and joyfully, not begrudgingly or because of pressure from other people.

We can claim gift aid back on people's tithes and other donations because we are a charity, so long as we have confirmation that you are happy for us to do that and the money you're giving is eligible (i.e. is from your personal income on which you're paying tax, not inheritance or other sources). We occasionally get funds from other sources such as grants but the vast majority of income comes from people in the church. If you want to start giving, download this leaflet for more information.

Why have a Network of churches instead of just one bigger church?

From the very beginning our Senior Pastor James Burn, had, as the vision for Kingfisher, a picture of a series a dots all joined together, representing different churches forming a network. The Kingfisher Network is now a reality, churches in the Kingfisher Network have their own style, flavour and core ministries, which makes them special and unique - appealing to different people. Even in a relatively small city like Gloucester, one church can't meet all the needs and challenges of the whole city. Launching new churches helps us to reach as many lost people as we can, which is what Kingfisher is all about! All the churches in the Kingfisher Network share the same core beliefs, heart and mission and all work very closely together and we have network meetings every Sunday evening at Tredworth.
