There’s a famous book by a man called J B Philiips entitled, ‘Your God is too small’. He says that, “In varying degrees we suffer from a limited idea of God.” It’s like we’re viewing Him from a distance rather than in close up, and we’ve lost sight of the awesomeness and the magnificence of who He is. We don’t comprehend how amazing and powerful His love really is. We view Him through the lens of our human experience and think that we know Him, but in reality we have no idea how great He really is! If only there was a different lens to look through, something to help us see more clearly so that we could know Him better? Well there is, we can magnify Him through song. To magnify means to praise highly, but it also means to make something appear larger. We can’t make God bigger than He already is, but as we lift our voices in praise, it moves us closer and helps us to see Him more clearly. Lord, help me to sing today, to magnify You above the many demands and worries that try to distract me from You. May a song about You be the soundtrack of my day filling my mind and my mouth!
