James, here calls us to a change of perspective! Let’s not just focus on the difficult things we face; if we do we will only lose heart, be full of doubt and tempted to quit. But instead, let’s choose to see the potential here for growing faith that endures, and to experiencing the joy that truly comes when I hold on to Jesus! Lord, as I encounter the purifying fires of difficult situations would you forge a faith in me that refuses to give up! Help me to lean on You and to see the joy set before me so that my spiritual life would have the stamina and strength to keep going and to see You move in a transforming way in my life and through my life to others.
