“In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.’ For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.” 1 Corinthians 11:23-26 NIV
Jesus has given us this communion meal as a visual and sensory way of remembering what He has done for us, to proclaim the meaning and the power of His death and resurrection, in the hope of His glorious return! It reminds us that this world is still captive to sin, people are still slaves to their human desires, in rebellion to God and facing the devastating consequences of life lived without Him, but we have a Saviour. We have a substitute sacrifice, the Lamb of God, who died for us, who took the punishment we deserve so that we could go free, and as we put our trust in Him and as we put our hope in His blood, and are obedient to His Word, we find forgiveness, wholeness, God’s Shalom, His peace, our lives transformed in the present, with an amazing future ahead of us. That is good news to those of us weighed down with guilt and shame and regret and fear and pain, that in Jesus we can find rest, real relationship. May we never forget! 🙏🏼❤️
