These verses come off the back of David crying out for help, aware of the evil around him and not knowing who he could trust? But he knew the One who was trustworthy, the One who was worthy of praise, so that’s where He turned his eyes and ears and that’s what caused him to lift his voice in song! He found joy…in the Lord! One of the things that has always helped me is intentionally looking for songs that are about God, that help me focus on Him, and that help me express my faith and hope! Words attached to a melody stick and I often find my mind repeating a lyric over and over, almost without me thinking about it!
