Invigorate my soul // 14-09-23

“Invigorate my soul so I can praise you well, use your decrees to put iron in my soul. And should I wander off like a lost sheep—seek me! I’ll recognise the sound of your voice.” Psalm‬ ‭119‬:‭175-176‬ ‭MSG‬‬

Nearly everyone I meet at the moment seems weary, and I certainly feel like I’ve lost momentum going into this new term, struggling to get going again after the summer. What we need is some invigoration! To invigorate means to give strength or energy to, to give life to, to make someone feel fresher and healthier! The Psalmist hear recognises our tendency to wander off from God, the source of life, and he suggests that it’s in hearing God’s commands, His ‘decrees,’ recognising and following the sound of His voice that will put iron in our souls! Iron deficiency is characterised by tiredness and a lack of energy, irregular heartbeat and shortness of breath. If you’re lacking iron you have to take supplements for your physical health, but spiritually speaking we also need the iron supplements that come from reading, hearing and knowing God’s Word. Without it we will be weak and lethargic in our faith! Lord, I need Your Word everyday! As I read it would You use it to put iron in my soul, to invigorate me so I can praise You, serve You, love You, and follow You well, with renewed strength and passion and determination. Amen 👆🏼🙏🏼
