“I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.” John 14:6 NLT
This is the sixth ‘I am’ statement of Jesus, as recorded in the Gospel of John! I love the definitive, specific nature of these words with no room for doubt. He’s not just ‘a’ way, Jesus says He is ‘The’ Way! To start with He has modeled for us the greatest way to live in this life (to serve others), just remember that on the night He was betrayed He got down from the table and washed His disciples feet, saying to them, “I have given you an example to follow!” This was unprecedented and shocking behaviour for a leader, it’s not the way of the world, but we were created to serve, to take care of this world and each other, it’s actually the most significant and fulfilling way to live! But not only that, Jesus has also opened up ‘The’ way to eternal life! Only He has dealt with the issue of sin that keeps us from God, offering forgiveness, and the way back to truly knowing Him! Only Jesus died in our place and exacted the justice so that by God’s grace we could be saved. What a way! Lord, thank You for making the way, showing the way, and for being The Way! Help me to be like You this week with that same heart to serve and to save. Amen 👆🏼🙏🏼
